Chinese President Xi Jinping, together with his wife Peng Liyuan, arrived Mauritius on July 27 to further strengthen the bilateral ties between China and Mauritius by both increasing its coordination in international affairs and protect the common interests of developing countries.

The red carpet was rolled over the airport's tarmac in the capital Port Louis as Chinese President Xi and Party arrived in Mauritius. He was greeted thereat by Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and his wife Kobta Ramdanee. An arrival honor also greeted Chinese President Xi.

Chinese President Xi expressed his thanks and appreciation to the warm welcome given to him and to his Party by the people and government of Mauritius. For his part, Mauritian Prime Minister Jugnauth said that it is his honor to receive Chinese President Xi.

China is now ready to further strengthen the South-South Cooperation on climate change with Mauritius. According to Chinese President Xi, China and Mauritius have enjoyed friendly bilateral ties. He added that he looks forward to exchanging great ideas with Mauritian Prime Minister Jugnauth on topics about bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual concern. He also said that China is willing to be a good friend and partner of Mauritius as he is positive that both countries will further develop its bilateral friendly cooperation with each other.

Chinese President Xi also cited the remarkable achievements and positive developments that Mauritius has been accomplishing since its independence 50 years ago. He also expressed his gratitude on the friendly policies that various Mauritian administrations had towards China.

"Since China and Mauritius established ties 46 years ago, the two sides have witnessed increasingly deepened political trust and fruitful results in exchanges and cooperation in various areas," Chinese President Xi said. "Both as developing countries, China and Mauritius have similar development processes and tasks. The two countries now face important opportunities for the development of their relations."

Mauritius was the last stop of Chinese President Xi's overseas trip after he visited the counties of United Arab Emirates, Senegal, Rwanda and South Africa. He also attended the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa on July 25-27. BRICS is the gathering of five major emerging economies - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - to discuss economic solidarity and cooperation among participating nations. It was the sixth consecutive time that Chinese President Xi attended the BRIC Summit.
