The Xiaomi Mi A2 and A2 Lite Android One have been launched in Hong Kong, not long after both were recently brought out in the open in Spain. The device will reportedly become available starting August 7, new handsets that cost roughly $255.
The Xiaomi Mi A2 Android One looms as an exciting mid-range device offering more than decent specs. It will feature a 5.99-inch full HD+ display (2160x1080 pixels), come protected by a 2.5D curved glass and layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
An octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset will power the upcoming device. Customers get to choose from a variety of RAM and ROM configurations that include 4 GB RAM with either a 32 GB or 64 GB ROM. There is also a 6 GB RAM with 128 GB internal option, probably better considering it does not come with provisions for expandable storage.
As for the built-in cameras, the Xiaomi Mi A2 will come with a dual 12 MP primary camera (with IMX486) and a 20 MP secondary sensor (with Sony IMX376). Up front is a 20 MP camera (with IMX376) with a soft LED flash. It will bank on a 3,100 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support, Gizmo China said. It will have no 3.5 mm audio jack included and came with USB Type-C connectivity. The Mi A2 will be available in black, blue, gold, red, and rose gold shades.
The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite will come with milder specs. It will bank on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC and available in either 3 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM and 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM combos. Surprisingly, the lite version will come with provisions for expandable storage and a larger 4,000 mAh battery. This means that the device should be good for use for up to two days. Unlike the Mi A2, the lite variant will still have the 3.5 mm audio jack present. The device will also still make use of the micro-USB interface. Color variants will only be black, blue and gold.
Both the Xiaomi Mi A2 and A2 Lite Android One will come with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and will be supported by monthly security updates according to Android Authority. This will be the company’s second smartphone running on stock Android rather than Xiaomi’s customized MIUI interface.
With prices starting at $255 in Hong Kong, it will be interesting which of the two most would go after. There are notable differences that could sway buyers into getting either device. The Xiaomi Mi A2 offers better specs, but the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite still offers a mix of old features some folks still find handy.
