A Hong Kong Disneyland employee just died of a car crash right outside the famous theme park. This is reportedly the city's third road fatality in just four days.
The 50-year-old man previously worked in the park's Facility Services team. According to South China Morning Post, he was cruising alone along Magic Road - particularly near the Hollywood Hotel - on Lantau Island when the crash happened after 7:30 am.
"The Honda Stream mounted the central divider, slammed into a tree and nearly broke in two," a police source said.
Firefighters were having a hard time freeing him up, as he was trapped inside the vehicle. Unconscious, he was taken straight to North Lantau Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly before 9 am.
The police are still investigating the accident. They are trying to determine whether the driver had been overspeeding. It is worth noting that in Magic Road, the speed limit is about 50km/h, though it is not deemed a traffic black spot.
As per the Hong Kong Disneyland spokeswoman, staff was saddened by his death and that help would be given to his immediate family.
Since Friday, this has been the third road fatality recorded in Hong Kong, EJ Insight reports.
On Saturday, an 83-year-old was dead on arrival after being hit by a coach. The accident happened on Victoria Road just near the junction in Sai Ning Street in Kennedy Town.
A day earlier, however, a four-year-old girl died right away when she got knocked down by a vehicle on Clear Water Bay Road in Sai Kung.
Authorities released an official report, suggesting that at least 82 people died in 62 traffic accidents across Hong Kong. All of these happened in the first six months of the year. One of these accidents was the terrifying Tai Po bus crash, which took place in February. It killed 19 and hurt more than 60 individuals.
