Apple has addressed complaints tied up to freezing iPhone 8 screen displays, explaining that such is tied up to defective logic boards. The Cupertino company alleges that the issue affects only a very small percentage and that they have started a repair program to address the issue.
The repair program is free to iPhone 8 owners who have been experiencing the problem. For those unaware, the freezing display has caused some units not to turn on, Brerecorder said. Folks who were among the unfortunate ones to get the defective batch are encouraged to avail of the free service. All one has to do is place the phone’s serial number into a web form at Apple’s official website.
Units likely to be affected were the ones purchased between September 2017 and March 2018 in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, New Zealand and the U.S. Owners are however cautioned that there are certain things to remember before Apple does the repairs.
The most important of all is making sure that the device does not have any form of screen damage. This includes cracks on the iPhone screen. Should this be the case, iPhone 8 owners will need to first get that fixed. This should be done through any authorized Apple center.
A good recourse would be for users to have Apple to render the repair to save on time. There will be additional fees above the free logic board replacement although this looms a convenient way to have all issues addressed at once.
Also, Apple will do the usual preliminary examinations to make sure that the device is free from other issues to make sure that the unit is eligible for the program. It would be best to note that this program is not applicable to the iPhone 8 Plus and other iPhone models. For those affected, Apple suggests that users do the necessary iPhone backups to iTunes or iCloud.
Despite the initiative from Apple, some outlets have lashed out at the conditions set forth. This is with reference to the iPhone 8 have previous damage, some wary of the added costs in the (forced) repairing of the device that should be good as new afterward, Forbes said.
While the iPhone 8 units affected have already been detailed, folks experiencing other abnormalities with their iPhone units may do well to check if their device is running on the latest version of iOS. To check, head into your Settings menu, select General and then tap Software Update.
