Iran's president Hassan Rouhani slammed the US, blaming them for an attack which occurred during a military parade in the country. In turn, the Revolutionary Guards also blamed Saudi Arabia, a strong ally of the United States.
Rouhani wasn't specific on which country in the Persian Gulf he was pertaining to, however. There are Middle-Eastern countries there that are friendly to the US, Global News pointed out-the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates are all staunch US allies. Despite the claimants of the attack being a splinter group from Saudi Arabia, it wasn't clear whether it was really the kingdom that the Iranian president was pertaining to.
Speaking further on the nature of the attacks, Rouhani didn't mince words, saying that the region's rogue countries are all backed by the US. He added that the Americans were responsible for arming these countries as well as giving them suggestions to incite terror in the region.
The military parade on Saturday was infiltrated by militants who dressed up as soldiers. The attack happened in Ahvaz, a region in the important, oil-rich southwest area of Iran. The attack was cited as being the deadliest attack occurring in the country within the last ten years.
The Revolutionary Guards, meanwhile, didn't waste time to assure the Islamic Republic's residents that swift justice will be imposed against perpetrators. State media reported that the assailants will face a "deadly and unforgettable" retaliation from them, CNN World reported. They assured the people that those behind the deadly attack won't be able to escape and that sooner or later, they will all be hunted down.
In turn, the Revolutionary Guards pointed to Saudi Arabia as the perpetrators of the deadly attack, despite reports which still has to pinpoint the people behind the attacks. Investigations revealed that the attack took casualties from both military personnel and civilians. In turn, the Saudi Arabian-splinter group Amaq-who claimed that they are under ISIS-claimed the attack.
The US, for their part, said the accusations by Iran were baseless. Nikki Haley, US Ambassador to the United Nations, said that it was impossible for them to instigate the attack as they condemn terrorism. She advised the Iranian president to look at his 'home base' for answers on who was behind the attack.
