Changi Airports International (CAI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China's Hunan Airport Management Group closing the deal in airport consultancy projects. The MOU ensures the company's investment in China.
CAI was inaugurated as the Singapore Changi Airport in 1981. Since then, the company only focused on a single goal which is to accelerate Singapore's economic development. Over the decades, the airport has established itself as one of the world's most awarded airports. CAI claims to be formed to spearhead aviation consultancy services, management projects, and global investments.
In 2008, CAI was also engaged by the General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia to provide management services to its King Fahd International Airport. The company was tasked on this agreement to transform, commercialize and corporatize the airport, and help reverse its falling market share.
In its management of the King Fahd International Airport, CAI's Saudi Arabia based employees worked with the airport's local management team to establish a traffic development programme. Since then, the traffic at the airport has steadily and continuously grown surpassing its competitor.
CAI stated that the MOU will start the collaboration between the two parties in airport planning and design, operation and management of the airports managed by the Hunan Airport Management group. The Hunan group currently owns and controls five airports in the country and the company also manages two other airports within the Hunan province in South Central China. Changsha Huanghua International Airport is one of the fast-growing airports controlled by the company.
As their first project, the companies' plans to strengthen Changsha Huanghua International Airport's passenger experience by enhancing the airport's commercial layout, improving passenger flow, and ensuring service quality.
The partnership also plans to develop customized training programmes and knowledge sharing platforms to build a talent pipeline. The development is targeted at mid to senior level airport managers and all other airport professionals.
CAI manages the international investment, management, and consultancy of Singapore's Changi Airport Group. CAI is known to have wide experience in China since the company has acted as a consultant to the country's 20 airports in important areas like their operations, the airports' passenger flow, their commercial layout and development plans, and also their service quality. The company also shares its expertise in airport business and its know-how through structured study tours. It provides specific training to Chinese aviation employees through its China-Singapore Airport Management Academy (CSAMA).
