Automakers usually use the state fair of Texas in debuting truck-focused trims and features because of Texas.

The State Fair 2018 has launched Toyota's recent debut of new SX trim for its Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks. Aside from this is a new 4Runner trim called the Nightshade. These new variants have added darkened and blackout-trim to the prominent nameplates of Toyota.  According to The Drive, 4Runner Nightshade features the following:

  • black accents throughout
  • including front and rear bumper spoilers
  • mirrors
  • door handles
  • window moldings
  • roof rails and badge

As for the Black interior, features are added to the steering wheel, center console, cluster, door grip, and shift knob. If one will avail this stealthy trim, $1740 will be added to the price of a 4Runner Limited which costs $43,225 and it is available in Midnight Black metallic, Blizzard Pearl and Magnetic Gray Metallic. While everything remains as is in the 4Runner, the package is somehow for the looks.

Toyota Tundra and Tacoma SX

Tundra SX added black wheels and color matched trim pieces such as fenders, bumpers, and other adornments to brush up the exterior. Just like the Nightshade, the SX is reportedly a visual appearance package and customers can still have options: drivetrain configurations and several cabs. However, the Toyota loyalists will have to add $1630 on top of the SR5 trim that has $33,220 price in order to obtain the SX look. The exterior colors are available in Super White, Barcelona Red Metallic and Midnight Black Metallic.

The earlier mentioned source revealed this is a similar story for the Tacoma SX, ditching the color-matched trim for all-black. Moreover, the SX may have blacked out treatment on high visibility parts such as:

  • Badging
  • Overfenders
  • Mirror caps
  • Grille
  • Door handles
  • Headlamps
  • 16-inch black alloy wheels are added to the best-selling midsize truck

The upgrade of Tacoma SX amounts $560 comes in Silver Metallic, Super White, Midnight Black Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Quicksand, and Barcelona Red. While these are only minor upgrades, the Texas debuts only make sense for Toyota as they lately relocated their headquarters from California to Texas. In the end, the Tacoma and Tundra trucks are built at the massive production of the company in San Antonio.

Furthermore, it is safe to say these new packages are the direct result of Chevrolet and Nissan's success. Avid followers of these famous automakers also have their blacked out Silverado and Titan pickup trucks.
