Honda Motor Co. Ltd reportedly filed a recall report last Thursday with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to 24/7 Wall St, they brought forward the planned recall of 1.4 million vehicles and replace its airbag inflators. The main reason why they did is the possibility of an explosion that may result in major injuries and death to drivers and other people inside the vehicle. At the moment, the recall has not been scheduled yet until late 2018.
However, the filing says Honda has received enough supply of replacement inflators to currently start recalling and replacing the Takata inflators. The independent monitor of Takata remedy program reveals that at the end of 2017's third quarter, there are over 45 million inflators needed to be replaced and already 20 million had taken place.
The monitor estimated that the recall will expand to over 68 million inflators by the end of the year and a total of more than 34 million vehicles will possibly be affected by the recall. Moreover, the number of vehicles does not match up as some of them are equipped with just one Takata airbag and some are equipped with two.
Unfortunately, during the report of the planned recall, already 13 NHTSA attributed deaths have been revealed due to defective airbags. The earlier mentioned source also revealed that Honda is set to notify owners of the recall through email starting November 15. While Honda replaced the defective Takata driver's side airbag during the earlier recall, owners are directed to return and allow the passenger side device replaced.
A list from carcomplaints.com has been released, consisting the models and model years included at the latest recall. Honda has recalled 100 percent of all the vehicles sold in the United States. Sadly, not all in the list is included in the recall this time.

As per the report in KKTV 11 News, Honda says the recall only covers the Acura and Honda vehicles. It is a part of the attempt in getting ahead of the government mandated recall schedule on the Japanese made airbags.
