Auto Blog has written about Ford being a potential hero reviving the manual transmission soon.
According to the earlier mentioned source, there has been a lamentable decline in a manual transmission. However, fresh reports say Ford might revive the three-pedal as they launch the debut the highly anticipated 2020 Ford Bronco small SUV. Aside from this, it has been reported Ford has tapped Getrag, a German auto supplier to develop a seven-speed gearbox for the new model.
They will likely pair it with the 2.7 liter Eco Boost V6 that was featured as well in the 2019 Edge ST and as one of the choices for the F-150. It is reportedly rated at 400-pound-feet of Torque and 325 horsepower. The seven-speed manuals featured in only a few cars such as the Porsche 911, Chevrolet Corvette, and the ultra-exclusive Aston Martin V12 Vantage V600.
Tatarevic also cited several unnamed sources and it says the new transmission is set to be dubbed the MT-88. He noted Ford already sourced the MT-82 six-speed manual for the Mustang. It is reportedly from the Getrag that is owned by Canadian auto supplier called Magna International.
As expected, none of the involved parties have commented about the unannounced plans of the future product. Moreover, the long-time alleged future comeback of the Bronco nameplate was confirmed by Ford. This happened way back in January 2017 along with the Ranger pickup and is said the will be built at the assembly plant in Wayne, Mich on a shared body on frame platform.
In addition, the reports say Bronco was built for the year 1996 model and is based on the F-150 pickup. The new model is reportedly being engineered in Australia. It also where the Ford worked on the Everest SUV and Ranger, where it shared the platform. The year 2019 is fast approaching and followers of such product should learn more about the plans of Ford for the rumored revival of Bronco.
Slash Gear revealed many Bronco enthusiasts wants to believe the report but are also worried of getting their hopes up. On one hand, Ford has pushed for electrification and this will see every model with at least one electrified option. Bronco's case will have the gas-electric hybrid.
The documentation of Getrag about the work in progress manual gearbox was able to identify the most potential candidate. Moreover, the documentation is available in both the 6 and 7 gear configurations and will work with the engines that muster up to over 405 lb-ft of torque.
