As expected, Apple lifted the covers off a new iPad Pro at the scheduled event in New York City. Most of the anticipated features were on point and now most are wondering if the latest tablet from the Cupertino company is worth getting or upgrading to.
The first thing that folks will notice is that the iPad Pro 2018 comes with features fairly similar to the iPhone XS series. This was explained in detail in a previous post where the bezel-less screen now covers a wider niche as well as the physical home button no longer around. To navigate, folks will have to get used to the gestures to help them unlock and perform other features. If that doesn’t work, the Apple Pencil should aid folks with the desired function/s.
There are two tablets to choose from. There is the 11- (2388x1668 resolution) and 12.9-inch (2732x2048) 120 GHz screen sizes, larger screens for work and play. Immediately noticeable is that these new breed of iPad Pro tablets are not bulky. They are light to carry around and very much pleasing to hold, ARS Technica said.
With the home button gone, the iPad Pro 2018 will now turn to Face ID to unlock the device. Now sporting a modern look thanks in part to the cut edges, the security feature impressively responds, meaning potential owners do not have to worry about immediately unlocking the device when called for, Digital Trends said.
Also gone is the iconic 3.5 mm audio jack, meaning that folks may have to resort to a wireless Bluetooth-powered headphone instead. The tablet does come with the same quad-speaker setup though users who prefer to listen privately will want an alternative way to hear audio from media files.
Worth noting as well as the return of the Smart Keyboard for folks who prefer to key in characters from an external source than on screen. It also comes with a 12 MP main camera and front-facing 7 MP camera, each of which should come in handy depending on what an owner plans to do with them.
Finally, there is the expected transition from the Lightning port to the USB-C charging port. It is a feature that Apple has been using on its latest iPhone offerings, particularly when it comes to charging. Aside from that, folks can now easily connect it to external displays – something handy for folks who create presentations.
As far as length of use, the iPad Pro 2018 can reportedly last a day. With regards to pricing, the 11-inch version is priced starting at $799 while the 12.9-inch costs $999 a pop.
