China's Didi Chuxing plans to reorganize its leadership structure to improve the safety of the users of its platform. The reorganization plan will address the growing safety concern of the public and the government following the murders of two of its passengers. Didi is the largest ride-hailing platform in China.
According to a post on the company's WeChat account, they plan to create two additional positions in its upper management structure. One of the positions will act as a chief safety officer who will directly report to Chief Executive Cheng Wei and another chief information security officer will report to Chief Technology Officer Bob Zhang.
Didi said that safety is their number one priority for their users. They added that the committee members responsible for safety will promote and implement safety reform work, invest in online and offline resources, and thoroughly improve the company's standard for safety.
In a statement, the company said that the new set-up will strengthen the company's safety and security performance in the interest of the healthy and sustainable development of the company as well as the broader industry.

The Chinese ride-sharing firm went controversial after a 21-year-old was raped and killed in Zhengzhou. The suspected killer is an unregistered Didi driver. The girl's body was found floating in a river.
Three months later, a 20-year-old girl's body was found. The victim was raped and killed by a Didi driver in August. The suspect was arrested by the police in Yueqing city, in Zhejiang province. The suspect confessed that he raped and killed the girl.
According to the public court records reviewed by the South China Morning Post, there are at least a dozen sexual assault cases that involve Didi drivers and their passengers.
The Ministry of Transport said that Didi is "out of control" and he scrutinized the company's management and its background check procedures. The ministry's spokesman, Wu Chungeng, said that they found that ride-hailing platforms including Didi have many issues and risks associated with operations management, product compliance, emergency mechanisms, information protection, and public security.
Didi posted on its WeChat account that they ask its ride-hailing divisions to unite as a single business unit. The company plans to unite its bike rental, designated driver and public transport into one. They will encourage them to improve their compliance and services standards.
