As the popular adage goes, "Less is more," and this applies to anything even to makeup. Putting on too much makeup can damage the skin in the long term and make you look older. Celebrities especially avoid these makeup mistakes that add ten years to the looks.

She Finds spoke with some of the cosmetic industry's experts to find out which makeup mistakes celebrities avoid. Ella Parsons with UK Models says to avoid using a thickening mascara since it has a heavier formula and flattens the eyelashes. Instead, opt for lengthening mascara, which is a lighter product that opens up the eyes. She also suggests using a thin wand to apply to ensure each lash is coated.

Parsons likewise suggests trading black eyeliners for the softer dark brown hues for a more sophisticated look. A deep brown shade gives a similar impact as black but in a subtle way. She advises putting the eyeliner along the upper lashes only and flicking it as it reaches the outer corners to open the eyes. The dark brown eyeliner gives that rock-chick vibe, according to Huda Beauty.

Likewise, Charlotte Isaacs, head of makeup at The London School of Make-Up, says a "sparing line directly above the eyes" is enough to give anyone an "air of mystery, adding allure and definition." It also keeps "things in proportion."

Meanwhile, Amy Nicole, founder of Chic Studios School of Makeup, warns against putting too much concealer. She suggests putting just a bit of the product under the eye to minimize discoloration or darkness.

"A heavier hand with makeup under the eyes will make you look older, as well as the application of too many shimmery products to a dry face."

Minneapolis-based makeup artist Hillary Kline agrees that putting too much concealer only enhances crow's feet and laugh lines. She also suggests using a lightweight concealer and avoiding caking on it. Speaking of crow's feet, it is also best to avoid false eyelashes since it draws attention to crow's feet and saggy eyelids.

Meanwhile, dark colors on the eyelids and lips and bright lipstick also make you look older. Bright lipstick attracts attention to your shrinking lip line. Instead, choose a hue that goes with your natural lip color and opts for a stain than a creamy lipstick.

Most of all, it is best to avoid using heavy powder formulas since they only enhance every line and crease. Instead, use liquid products with a dewy finish to keep the skin looking young and fresh. Parsons reminds women to fill their bags with liquids, gels, or creams that make their skin look younger and hydrated.
