After the lackluster performance of The Curse Of Osiris and Warmind DLCs, Bungie reported a huge drop in the number of active Destiny 2 players. However, the developer was able to recover from the letdown with the release of Forsaken, which marks the game's first major expansion and welcomes the second year of content. Fans of the game unanimously praised the shooter's return to form and anticipated what's in store for rest of the season. To celebrate the holidays, players can now participate in The Dawning-an in-game event that introduces even more activities. Nevertheless, there are some gamers that feel like there's something missing.
Earlier this month, the Black Armory expansion went live and increased the Light Level cap to 650 from 600. Likewise, a new horde-mode activity called Forges gave Guardians another reason to grind out the game for new weapons, reports Forbes. Furthermore, Mayhem returns once again to the Crucible playlist, which is where players who prefer to battle against their fellow gamers spend most of their time.
Veteran players from the online co-op FPS' first installment will immediately recognize a familiar face at the tower. Eva Levante, the NPC merchant that sold shaders in the original title, makes an appearance to help Destiny 2 players initiate The Dawning's optional questline. It involves a significant amount of grinding to collect ingredients via over various game modes. These are eventually used to craft gift items in the form of holiday treats. Once delivered to the appropriate NPC, it can net players some sweet rewards along the way and even a new exotic Sparrow with a festive design.
Despite the simple mechanics, most players agree that the event this year is much better than the problematic 2017 celebration. Polygon recalls that the last year's holiday fun was marred by forced microtransactions and a Glitch that reportedly ruined everyone's fun in the Crucible. It looks like the developer learned from their mistakes this time around.
As a Destiny 2 player, The Dawning delivers more reason to keep playing until the event ends early next year. Bungie is noticeably more transparent with a roadmap for the game and feedback from fans has been favorable so far. Yet, despite all of the positive elements it brings to the table, nitpickers noted the absence of snowballs piles in patrol zones. Some gaming publications speculate that the number of new areas added to the base game might be a factor. Nonetheless, it should not be a scapegoat to ruin the fun for Guardians who want throw a snowball at the enemy.
