Epic Games has officially retired its hack-and-slash mobile title, "Infinity Blade," to the dismay of its fans. But Epic Games promises that fans of "Infinity Blade" should not worry about its future as there are ways for the franchise to make a comeback in unexpected ways.
Epic Games posted on their website about the official retirement of "Infinity Blade" from Epic Games' library. According to the blog post, all three installments of the "Infinity" Blade" Trilogy will no longer be available for purchase from the Apple App store as of Dec. 10. In addition, "Infinity Blade" in-app purchases have also been disabled by the company for all titles.
Gamers who already own a copy "Infinity Blade" will still be able to continue playing the game on their devices. In addition, "Infinity Blade" title owners who have uninstalled their copies previously can still download the apps onto their devices. Epic Games notes that there is a possibility that this accessibility to "Infinity Blade" might change in the future.
In addition to the continued access, Epic Games promises owners of "Infinity Blade III" that the next few weeks will be filled with support from the development team. "Infinity Blade III" players can expect Clash Mobs and other undefined surprises to be accessible in the retiring game.
Donald Mustard - the Epic Games Global Creative Director - is quoted in the blog post as saying that the "Infinity Blade" franchise will always remain a beloved set of games for himself and the game development company.
According to Epic Games, continuing support for "Infinity Blade" has increasingly become difficult in light of the company's current direction and projects. The blog post directly references development for Epic Games' upcoming title - Spyjinx - as one of the factors that lead to the discontinuation of support for "Infinity Blade."
But fans of "Infinity Blade" do not have to simply take Epic Games and their executive at their word when it comes to the future of the franchise. As Gamespot notes, "Fortnite's" latest update has included what appears to be a love letter from Epic Games to fans of the "Infinity Blade" franchise.
The "Fortnite" season 7 update has apparently received a recent patch that now includes the Infinity Blade in the game. "Fortnite" players can acquire the Infinity Blade by fighting over its ownership during a match at the castle located on Polar Peak.
The new "Fortnite" Infinity Blade grants significant bonuses for players with health regeneration for each player kill. The new Infinity Blade item has its downsides though. Players who acquire the Infinity Blade drop all of their other weapons and items while carrying the blade.
