Those still holding out hope for a potential iOS 12 jailbreak in the wild may have to look for another way to crack their Apple devices with the recent closing of the Cydia app store. It seems that Jay Saurik finally closed the book on the main app store with his small team unable to deliver.

The announcement was made via a Reddit thread by Saurik himself. Apparently, the store cost him thousands of dollars each month, not to mention burden him mentally, Apple Insider said.

"The reality is that I wanted to just shut down the Cydia Store entirely before the end of the year, and was considering moving the timetable up," said Saurik on Reddit.

For those who have kept tabs with Saurik, news of its closure hardly comes as a surprise. There were already plans in the past to shut down Cydia until a discovered security flaw somehow delayed it. The flaw affected logged on users, a reason why some known jailbreak developers had asked to issue statements urging users to remove their Paypal info from their accounts.

Moving forward, a bit of good news is that while some may no longer be able to make purchases on Cydia, the repositories will still be around. This means that user can still download previous purchases or transact with third parties.

The recent developments follow the release of iOS 12.1.2 and iOS 12.1.1. According to 9 to 5 Mac, Apple has stopped signing iOS 12.1 meaning downgrades will no longer be possible.

Thus, it becomes a bit complicated for folks who are using jailbroken iPhones. When a glitch occurs, they will be forced to revert only to iOS 12.1.1 at the most. Again, this hardly comes as a surprise since the Cupertino company does stop signing older iOS versions as part of its efforts to ensure users have the most recent mobile operating system installed.

For those who are still clueless on what iOS 12.1.2 has to offer, the latest mobile operating system came with eSim bug fixes as well as address patents tied up to Apple’s legal battle with Qualcomm. iOS 12.1.1, a version that came out earlier this month, had already brought improvements to FaceTime, Haptic Touch (on the iPhone XR) and more.

Seeing a working iOS jailbreak moving forward may have gotten dimmer although this will not stop hackers from trying to come up with one. It has happened before although it would be best if such a crack would be made public and available to folks who still rely on iOS jailbreaks.
