Pokemon Go players are bracing for the new critters and stuff Niantic has up its sleeve, much of which will make their appearances via the EX Raids. Cresselia is expected to make its exit from Raid Battles and the new Legendary has been revealed as Heatran.

According to the Pokemon Go official Twitter account, Heatran will be coming today starting at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. The new Legendary should be something to look forward to, a pocket monster who will be present in the game until Jan. 15, 2019, 1:00 p.m. PT.

For those not familiar with Heatran, he is a third generation Legendary Pokemon from generation 4, IGN said. He follows previous legendaries such as Giratina, a critter that was around last October during the Halloween event. Heatran is a Fire/Steel-type Pokemon that first appeared in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

The announcement of Heatran can also be seen as the incremental rollout of Gen 4 Pokemon, something that is expected to continue until 2019. Five more Legendary Pokemon are expected to follow, including two Mythical Pokemon plus an alternate Legendary Pokemon from that will be added to the game, Comicbook.com said.

For now, the focus is on Heatran – a Fire-type attacker. It is believed that the Legendary Pokemon will have similar attack stats with that of Moltres but come armed with higher defense stats and some weaknesses. As far as his CP is concerned, Heatran is likely to be at par with Metagross and Salamance.

So what should one expect once he comes across Heatran? For one, it would be best to tag along with a team who have good ground-type attacks. It seems that this will be one weakness that Pokemon Go players can exploit.

Hence, some of the ideal pocket monsters that one could use are Groudon and Rhyperior during raid battles. Alternative critters include fighting-type and Water-type Pokemon, both seen to hold an advantage of Heatran.

Aside from the coming of the new Legendary Pokemon, it also marks the beginning of Pokemon Go’s 2018 Holiday event. Hence, augmented reality players should expect a wave of bonuses in the coming days. That includes double Stardust, double candy and free incubators among others.

For those who may have missed it, there is also the coming of the Attack Forme Deoxys that will be made available in EX Raids too. Much of this was covered in a previous post, stressing how these new critters will carry a much higher attack stat compared to the standard Pokemon out in the wild.
