Fans who love "The Witcher" fantasy series from author Andrzej Sapkowski will not be disappointed with Henry Cavill. The actor, best known for playing Superman in the DC Extended Universe, has been tapped to play the story's hero, Geralt of Rivia, for the Netflix adaptation. But while his casting has been well-received by fans, no one has seen how Cavill will portray the role as there are still no clips or teasers about the series.
But in an interview with Onet Film, producer Tomasz Baginski expressed confidence that potential viewers of "The Witcher" TV adaptation will love Cavill's take on Geralt of Rivia. Baginski doesn't want to give anything away so as not to spoil the fans, but he described the actor as a "big, strong guy" who should not be messed with.
Baginski also said that he's quite satisfied with Cavill playing the iconic role. He knows that fans of "The Witcher" franchise, who have come to love the character in the novels and the video games, will also fall in love with Cavill's portrayal.
Geralt of Rivia is the fearless monster hunter on "The Witcher." His character has undergone a difficult training process to develop his skills, but Geralt specifically stands out as a monster hunter because he's wiser than most and he has succeeded where others have failed as a very capable warrior.
It seems Cavill has seriously embraced his role as Geralt of Rivia, too. In a recent post on Instagram, the actor shared a photo to say that he's still doing his daily physical training despite a solid snow day on the set. He's committed to assuming the character of Geralt because he would like to give fans the "best live action" version of "The Witcher."
Last May 2017, Netflix announced that it had commissioned the adaptation of "The Witcher" novels for the small screen with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as the showrunner. The first season will have eight episodes, but reports say Netflix will likely renew the show for multiple seasons before the launch.
Netflix executives are reportedly also happy with how the show is coming along. Though there is still no official announcement about the show's release on the streaming platform, speculations are that "The Witcher" might debut in late 2019 or early 2020. The show also stars Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra, Jodhi May, Adam Levy, Millie Brady, and Mimi Ndiweni.
