Apple's iPod Touch is long overdue for an upgrade and if the latest rumors on the device are true, there is a key change as far as connectivity is concerned.

According to Macotakara, one key change the next iPod Touch will carry is that it will have a USB-C interface that should alight it with the 2018 iPad Pros. It remains to be seen what other upgrades await folks who are still interested in the device, something that was originally released way back in 2015. they are still being offered in the market starting at $199 for the 32 GB storage variant.

After discontinuing the iPod nano and iPod Shuffle back in 2017, the iPod Touch has become the device aimed for young users who may not be ready for a smartphone. The last update made on the iPod Touch was in 2015, introducing a device that had an A8 chip, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and six color options. It was last updated in 2017 when Apple streamlined the capacity options and introduced new pricing tiers, iWorld.com said.

It remains to be seen if Apple will once again append storage options, something important nowadays since media files have been getting larger. This includes music and videos plus some games and other mobile solutions that keep users occupied either at home or when on the go.

And while most would likely opt for an iPhone or iPad instead, 9to5 Mac suggests that an entry-level iPod Touch may be a way for Apple to grow its install base and thus its Services segment. Having more iOS users means there are more users able to pay for iCloud storage, use Apple Music, and use the App Store and iTunes Store.

Some improvements are likely to include a better chipset or maybe some upgrades on the built-in camera. Unofficially, it is the USB-C connectivity that is looming as the big change for the next iPod Touch - something that the iPhone will allegedly shift to although it has yet to happen or gain ground.

Macotakara adds that this may not yet happen for this year since those working on the iPhone's USB-C has yet to reach the reference design stage. And while the outlet has been reliable when it comes to leaking information on Apple products, it would be best to take all of these with a grain of salt for now.

Though not one of the mainstream devices that a consumer would be looking for right now, the iPod Touch does still have its share of users although not as big as the iPhone or the iPad.
