Taking the stage at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Singapore released a crucial document that will serve as the ethical framework when working on the booming industry of Artificial Intelligence. The framework documents how A.I. can be responsibly and ethically used. This means that businesses in Singapore, along with other partners, will be required to grapple with issues surrounding the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence.

Dubbed as a "living document," the model framework will serve as a set of rules that will govern the fast paced development of Artificial Intelligence. The ethics framework was put together using feedback from leading industry experts. Since it is not the final version, the team behind the framework said that it will be tweaked and amendments will be added in order to have a much broader perspective regarding the industry.

The A.I. ethical framework was released by Mr. S. Iswaran at the World Economic Forum. Mr. Iswaran is Singapore's Minister for Communications and Information.

The framework is the first of its kind to be released in Asia and it provides a highly detailed guidance that is readily implemented to organizations in the private sector that utilize Artificial Intelligence. This is according to the statement released by the Infocomm Media Development Authority or IMDA.

Essentially, Artificial Intelligence is a set of computer programs that can perform various tasks that normally require human intelligence. These computer programs or machines are programmed to mimic how the human brain works. Among the technologies that are incorporated into Artificial Intelligence are simple and complex decision making, simulation, and speech recognition.

One popular application of Artificial Intelligence is automating recommended product placements in a particular website. Artificial Intelligence programs, through data gathered from a customer, can essentially predict their purchasing behaviour and in turn suggest products that are in line with their interests.

Mr. Iswaran said that he choose the World Economic Forum as the stage to release the Artificial Intelligence framework since it is a major forum that is host to government leaders and global industries. By choosing the WEF stage, Singapore is able to invite global feedback in order to further enhance the ethics framework.

During the conference, Singapore also announced that it is building a collaborative project with the World Economic Forum's Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in order to further advance the research and development of Artificial Intelligence and data innovation. Among those discussed during the forum is the adoption process of the new ethical framework.
