Nintendo has managed to keep its head above water with the Nintendo Switch. They do have some exclusive games although some features have yet to be tapped. One of them is the shift to 3D gaming, something they have yet to offer to the consumer market.

For those who may remember it, the closest was perhaps the Virtual Boy and the Nintendo 3DS, Gaming Bolt said. The latter seemed to gain more ground than the former although most know that 3D technology has evolved into something more complex in recent years. Could that happen with the Nintendo Switch?

Despite falling short with past consoles and gadget, it seems that Nintendo is not yet ready to waive the white flag. A recent patent filed supports that belief, something that involves eye tracking using a small camera or monitor one can place above a television set. This would eventually create the illusion of depth for the player without the need for glasses.

It may be best to note that patents can hint at things to come or possibly none. Like other tech companies, Nintendo continues to explore ways to enhance their product which would be the Nintendo Switch in this case. The patent hints at something like an optical illusion via image rendering, an intriguing technology that could work if it does gain ground.

The Nintendo Switch made headlines recently after topping the Sony PlayStation 4 as the best-selling game console of 2018, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and The NPD Group said. The results may come a bit of shock considering the PS4 seemed aggressive up through October. Turns out the Switch made its impact during November and December.

But then again, there are some things that need to be taking into consideration. BGR pointed out how the NPD Group only tracks physical sales, meaning digital purchases were not included. The story on which between the PS4 and the Switch could relay a better story and reveal different sales figures.

The games offered for either console is another factor that may have not been considered. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate came out on Dec. 7, something that was exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. It could have been another factor for the figures although a month may exactly entice a user to buy a game console and in droves.

Regardless, Nintendo needs to enhance the Switch and its game offerings. Adding 3D technology is good although the next things people will ask are the game they play to bundle with it.
