It didn't take long for President Donald Trump to issue a response on social media following Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz comments during a televised interview over the weekend. President Trump called out the business tycoon on Twitter, mentioning that he didn't have the "guts" to run for president.
The former CEO announced during an interview last Sunday that he was considering running for the highest position in the country as an independent candidate. In an interview with 60 Minutes, Schultz criticized Trump's use of social media and his ability to run the country.
Schultz also criticized Trump's inability to get the right people to run his government. The business titan explained that to make great decisions and to solve the country's problems, experienced and skilled people have to be assigned to the right positions. He also mentioned that Trump's administration and the GOP have been a "reckless failure."
In a Tweet posted a day after Schultz' interview, President Trump made sarcastic comments about Schultz statements during the interview. Trump agreed that Schultz wasn't the "smartest person," but he didn't have to worry as America already has him for that. Democrats have long since warned Schultz, a Democrat himself, that his entry into the race could be spell trouble for them in the coming elections. His entry could split the democratic votes, which would give Trump a better chance at snagging the win.
According to the latest polling data, Trump still holds a vast majority of Republican votes. The party's solidarity poses a great threat to any chances of a Democratic candidate taking the presidency. Schultz is currently at odds with a number of Democratic candidates on various issues such as Medicare for all. He also openly called some Democratic proposals as being too unrealistic.
Larry Sabato, a political analyst from the University of Virginia, mentioned on social media that Shultz bid for the presidency will definitely spell disaster for the Democratic Party and that he could be handing Trump the win in the coming elections.
A number of Democratic contenders have also condemned Schultz' bid for the position, with some outright urging him to reconsider his presidential run in 2020. Julian Castro, a Democratic candidate for the 2020 elections, told CNN in an interview that Schultz decision could be Trump's best hope for re-election.
In response to the criticisms from the Democratic Party, Schultz reiterated in an interview that he was not "in bed with a party" and that his bid was for the "American people."
