CBS may be saying goodbye to "The Big Bang Theory" after 12 seasons this May. However, the network remains open for a possible spinoff to join its first offshoot, "Young Sheldon."
Speaking with Deadline,CBS entertainment president Kelly Kahl said that they have been talking about the possibility of a second spinoff to "The Big Bang Theory" with creator Chuck Lorre and Warner Bros. However, Kahl clarified that "nothing formal" has been set on the table but if Lorre had something great in mind then the network will listen to the pitch.
At this point, it's not yet clear what subject the second spinoff will cover or who from the main stars will star in the new series. Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper) will likely not be in the spinoff since he's got "Young Sheldon" to keep him occupied.
The first spinoff to "The Big Bang Theory" is doing quite fine on CBS. "Young Sheldon" season 2, which tackles Sheldon's life as a young boy from Texas, is averaging nearly 11 million viewers every week.
Parsons also expressed that it is high time to move on from their characters on "The Big Bang Theory" since he doesn't see himself wearing superhero t-shirts as a 40-year-old Sheldon. But his co-star, Kaley Cuoco (Penny), didn't really want the show to end after season 12.
Cuoco has been saying in previous interviews that she's still hoping "The Big Bang Theory" could go on for another 10 seasons. She has been getting highly emotional about the end of the series.
The whole cast was recently the guests on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show and Cuoco revealed that she broke down on the set one time. Apparently, it has dawned on her that they are in their final days of working with each other. The actress also shared that after she bawled on the set, the crew came out with tears in their eyes to hug each other.
Parsons, on the other hand, admitted that he has yet to cry. He knows, however, that one day before the season is done it will hit him real hard that he won't be able to see the people he has worked with regularly since 2007.
"The Big Bang Theory" also stars Johnny Galecki (Leonard), Simon Halberg (Howard), Kunal Nayyar (Raj), Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) and Mayim Bialik (Amy). CBS has not yet announced the date of the series finale.
