The Golden State Warriors have one roster spot, the one that was vacated by Patrick McCaw. Looking at the roster of the Dubs, the logical player to fill up that void would be a big man. One team who could offer players to address that would be the New York Knicks.
The Knicks have long been listening to offers for Enes Kanter, a double-double machine that could be perfect for coach Steve Kerr. Following the Kristaps Porzingis trade, a new name has entered the mix in DeAndre Jordan.
Kanter has been displaced over in Gotham with the Knicks opting to invest more time in their younger players. The Turkish center is expected to be dealt soon and Kanter is simply waiting on where he would end up next, the NY Post said.
“I’m just going to wait four more days to see what happens, and then if something happens, it happens. If [it doesn’t happen], I’ll just go sit down with the front office, see what’s going on, see what they plan to do with me,” he said.
Jordan is another player that needs no introduction. After being coveted by the Dallas Mavericks for some time, he found himself being deal off for Porzingis. The belief is that he will be eventually bought out with several teams keeping tabs. Los Angeles is reportedly a destination although it has not been made clear if it will be with the Clippers or the Lakers.
With the Warriors, Jordan could be a good big man to get. Although DeMarcus Cousins is back in action, Jordan could initially play as a backup or gain the starting nod if he proves to be a better option for Kerr. Should DeAndre be looking for an NBA title, it could be his best chance of doing so. Jordan could agree to a deal and then worry about his future in the offseason.
If not Kanter or Jordan, Wes Matthews could be an option as well. According to Yahoo Sports, he too is on the Warriors radar once bought out. He could easily fill in the void and the same position left by McCaw, although playing time may be limited.
Now on his 11th NBA season, Matthews averaged 13.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 44 games with the Mavericks. He also owns a 41.4-percent shooting FG clip and 38-percent from the three-point area. Whoever the Warriors choose will depend on what Kerr feels would be best for their playoff run.
