Shou Quan Zhai (SQZ) will soon start rolling out non-dairy beverages that come in aseptic packages as the Chinese food industry continues to pursue eco-friendly processes and operations.
SQZ is one of the oldest companies in China and has been exploring various methods not just to sell but also to contribute to the society and the environment's wellness. The food company's latest venture into beverages says a lot about its desire to become a healthy and "green" brand.
According to Packaging World, SQZ's new beverages come in two flavors: plum juice and ginger tea. The drinks are packaged in lightweight, flexible material created by Ecolean, a prominent entity in the eco-friendly packaging industry.
Starting February 20, the 200- mL drinks will be available in select retail stores across China as well as other e-commerce channels and SQZ's online store. The new products are part of the food brand's foray into traditional Chinese beverages. It is expected that similar products will be released in the near future.
Aside from introducing non-dairy, ready-to-drink beverages to the Chinese market, SQZ also chose Ecolean for a good reason. The company said it specifically chose Ecolean due to the packaging process' unique attributes and significantly low effects on the environment.
According to the EPPM Magazine, SQZ Director of Public Relations and Government Affairs, Lin Lei said of the partnership, "With a 259-year history, SQZ respects the environment for generations now and in the future. Ecolean's advanced packaging technology from Sweden has a minimum impact on the environment, is easy to recognize on the store shelf and is convenient for consumers to use."
SQZ opted for Ecolean's aseptic filling machine EL4+ to use during operations. The machine creates sterilized packages through electron beam treatment. The Chinese brand's staff can easily operate and maintain the machine since it was created to operate on a lean and economical process.
Meanwhile, other Chinese companies continue to explore more options that would reduce the negative impact of factory operations on the environment. One of them is China Cans Holding Ltd.

China Cans Holding Ltd. is joining hands with other global packaging companies as the industry seeks to provide consumers with more efficient, sustainable, and environment-friendly packaging.
