Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon didn't have a "showdown" at the press conference of Big Little Lies earlier this month, despite the claim of a recent report. This story has been corrected and confirmed to be a fabricated claim.
Kidman revealed at the Television Critics Association tour that there's no plan for the third season of the HBO series at the moment. Now, New Idea claims her co-star Witherspoon was shocked because of her "blunt admission" - causing tension between them. A so-called source of the outlet contends both stars had a showdown during the Q&A, and at one point, Meryl Streep had to intervene. However, the website didn't provide any proof to support the claim, and there's no other celebrity news outlet reported about their alleged "showdown."
But still, the untraceable insider insisted Witherspoon confronted Kidman backstage and accused her of being "selfish" as she didn't warn anyone she has no plans to return to the series, making it impossible to write and make another season. The unknown source further added Kidman was shaking because her co-star exploded and she stood in disbelief as she was accused of sabotaging Witherspoon's career. But she allegedly fought back and told her co-star she's not joining the HBO series because she felt "belittled" and "bullied."
According to Gossip Cop, the claim of the tabloid is entirely fabricated. Both stars shared some photos on their Instagram form the event, showing how close they are as well as other casts of Big Little Lies. Witherspoon also uploaded a photo of her along with her co-stars in honor of "Galentine's Day" - a holiday honoring female friendships. Kidman also celebrated the holiday and shared a photo of her with her co-stars. Cleary, Witherspoon, Kidman, as well as their Big Little Lies co-stars already formed a close bond, so there's no reason they'd be caught in some seemingly nonexistent fight.
Meanwhile, New Idea has been making false narratives and trying to create a "drama" behind the scenes of the HBO series, especially involving Kidman. In February 2018, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for wrongly reporting that Kidman was allegedly upset as Streep will be joining the Big Little Lies season 2 because she feared that she might overshadow her in the hit series. That claim has been debunked and not true at all, so this latest story about the actress and Witherspoon got into a "showdown" is similarly false as well.
