Olivia Pope's (Kerry Washington) story has come to an end, but creator Shonda Rhimes can't help fans clamor for Scandal Season 8. Although the 49-year-old television producer already revealed it would be the last installment for the political thriller series, viewers seemed still asking for more.
From the looks of it, ABC will never ask for a new set of episodes for Scandal Season 8. The previous season serves as the show's finale, and its story officially ended in April 2018.
But as fans have loved the show's twisted story, would it be possible that Scandal Season 8 would hit the small screen? According to OtakuKart News, if viewers continuously clamor for a new season of the series, Netflix may hear their cries and renew the show immediately.
Netflix has been rescuing and reviving canceled shows, so it could be possible fans would see the "Gladiators in Suits" on the streaming service. If the demand is strong, and viewers keep on asking for Scandal Season 8, their wish may come true.
However, the series' main cast seems wanting to move from the series as they are aiming to start doing new projects. Washington already decided to leave the show after seven seasons. Rhimes, on the other hand, confirmed there would be no Scandal Season 8, although she was reportedly doing eight series for Netflix.
Shonda Rhimes said in a statement, via Bustle, that she was ready to end Pope's "epic story." Fans saw the lead star's "messy life" took a lot of twists and turns as she went from being a crisis guru to the White House's First Girlfriend to turning into B613 Commander. She had complicated love affairs with former President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) and Jake Ballard (Scott Foley), puzzling relationships with her parents, unbelievable friendship with Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young), and different adventures with her on-and-off colleagues. With all that happened, would there still be Scandal Season 8?
Rhimes admitted it was a tough decision to end the show with no possible future for Scandal Season 8. "Deciding how to end a show is easy. Deciding when to finish is quite simple when the end date is years away. But actually going through with it? Actually standing up to say: 'This is it?' Not so much," she said. " ... we are going all out. Leaving nothing on the table. Creating this world in celebration. We are going to handle the end the way we like to handle the important things in our Scandal family: all together, white hats on, gladiators running full speed over a cliff."
