With more and more smartphones adopting the notch design Apple introduced in the iPhone X, it's refreshing to see other flagships working towards a notch-less display. And if a new rumor proves true, famed flagship-killer maker OnePlus will soon release one -- with a pop-up selfie cam.

According to images that have leaked online, OnePlus' upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 7, might sport a pop-up selfie camera, likely to make way for a wider, notch-less display, TechRadar reported. The leak comes from Twitter user @Steven_Sbw.

The leak shows two photos featuring the alleged flagship. A quick look at the two photos, both of which feature the front side only, reveals key details: notably thin bezels, vivid colors, and buttons on one side of the phone. The front camera, which should be located at the top bezel, cannot be found, NDTV noted.

The front camera's absence has sparked speculations that the upcoming flagship will have a pop-up selfie camera. The top bezel itself seems too thin to house a front camera, lending credence to this theory.

TechRadar notes that the leaked images look similar to the Oppo Find X, with a slight difference in the buttons and the bottom bezel. These similarities could be because both brands are owned by the same company, but with the stark similarities among various handsets from different companies nowadays, it shouldn't be a surprise anymore.

So far, however, OnePlus hasn't released any official statement or information regarding the highly anticipated phone. OnePlus is known to release top-performing affordable phones rivaling big names such as Samsung. Once the OnePlus 7 comes out, fans are assured that it will be worth the wait, pop-up camera or not.

Online reactions

Netizens who saw the alleged leak were quick to react to the images, some of them pointing out very important details testing the authenticity of Steven_Sbw's "reveal."

A closer look at the two photos would yield a surprising observation: on the horizontally-aligned image, it looks like the top and bottom bezel switched places (the top is thicker than the bottom), the home screen has rotated, and the side buttons have switched places as well. This caused people to reject the "leak" as a mere photoshopped image.

Others noted how the alleged OnePlus 7 looks like its older sibling, the OnePlus 6T, minus the notch. Because of this, they believe the leak is fake. Some even discovered the front camera simply by adjusting the photo's contrast.
