Draymond Green, the heart and soul of the three-peat-seeking Golden State Warriors, is switching teams. Earlier, Green was reportedly "close" to hiring Rich Paul of Klutch Sports as his agent. Klutch Sports represents a number of NBA superstars, including LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and John Wall.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports first reported the news about Green's desire to sign with Klutch Sports. According to Marcus Thompson of The Athletics, Green has been impressed by what Klutch Sports has built. A source close to the situation revealed that "Green's primary desire to switch agents is largely about being impressed with what Klutch (Sports), specifically, is building and what LeBron's camp is doing as a whole."
Green, the 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, still has a year left in the five-year $82 million contract he signed back in 2015 with the Golden State Warriors. BJ Armstrong was listed as Green's agent. Armstrong, who won three NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls, is an employee of Wasserman Media Group.
Aside from being the agent for Draymond Green, Armstrong also serves as an agent for Derrick Rose, Bismack Biyombo, Donatas Motiejunas, JaVale McGee, Denzel Valentine, and Josh Jackson. Wasserman Media Group is a sports and marketing representation group that represents professional athletes and entertainers.
Rich Paul, the founder of Klutch Sports Group, is a long-time friend of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar, LeBron James. The Lakers and Klutch Sports were heavily involved during the botched trade negotiations that would have sent the New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis to the Lakers. By joining Klutch Sports, it seems inevitable that Draymond Green would also be subjected to the same rumors and speculations that hounded Davis before and after the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline.
Green is a three-time NBA All-Star, a member of the All-NBA Second Team in 2016, and a member of the All-NBA Third Team in 2017. Green is a three-time member of the NBA All-Defensive First Team and was the NBA's steals leader in 2017. For his career, the Warriors star has averaged 9.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks.
Hobbled by various injuries, Green has only played 44 games for the Golden State Warriors this season. The Michigan State product has season averages of 7.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game on 42.4% shooting (24.5% from behind the arc). Early in the season, Green was involved in a public spat with teammate Kevin Durant.
Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, Marcus Morris, and Markieff Morris are just a few of the more notable names to sign with Klutch Sports in the last six months. Klutch Sports also represents Tristan Thompson, J.R. Smith, Ben Simmons, Montrezl Harrel, and Miles Bridges, among others.
