Women entrepreneurs are now gaining momentum in the United Arab Emirates as joint ventures between the government and the Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC) continue to open doors for female business leaders by providing business permits and job promotions.

Employment opportunities for women have increased over the past years as the UAE government continues to welcome gender equality in the corporate world, Khaleej Times reported.

President of the DBWC, Dr. Raja Al Gurg said of the developments, "The UAE leadership and society have rightly acknowledged the role of women in the economy by creating equal employment opportunities. There is unlimited potential among women in the UAE. We must unlock it for the benefit of all."

Gurg noted that the DBWC is a platform that allows for cooperation between men and women entrepreneurs who share the goal of eradicating unfair treatment and stereotyping of women workers in the business sector.

In 2002, the DBWC was established to promote gender equality in the workforce. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashad Al Maktoum, then Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Rule of Dubai, played a major role in encouraging business sectors to open opportunities for women who display potential and merit.

With the government's backing, the DBWC has helped provide aspiring women entrepreneurs with networking and training opportunities through its vast array of business-focused programs.

The council pledged to continue supporting Dubai women entrepreneurs as they aspire to participate in economic programs. For the group, it is important to main the UAE's ranks as the leader in gender equality in the Middle East.

As part of the UAE's efforts in empowering women across the region, the bell ringing activity in Dubai was led by Vice President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, Mona Al Marri.

According to Gulf News, the Dubai stock market held the event in commemoration of this year's International Women's Day. 71 stock exchanges around the world, including the Dubai Financial Market (DFM), joined hands in marking the occasion.

Representatives from various capital markets and entities joined the bell ringing ceremonies. The event was organized in partnership with a number of international groups including the World Federation of Exchanges and the United Nations Sustainable Stocks Exchanges (SSE) Initiative.

During the event, Al Marri stressed the significance of the initiative in supporting the role of UAE businesswomen in helping transform the society and the region's economy as a whole. She also said that the DWE will continue to boost female participation in various business sectors in both private and public settings.
