Many thought that the February 9, 2019 movie was Code Geass Season 3. It was later revealed otherwise. The film, which is titled Code Geass: Lelouch Of The Re;surrection, is set following the events of Zoro Requiem. Also, the film revolves around Suzaku's journey by which he is being chased by another Geass user.
As far as the release date of Code Geass Season 3 is concerned, it remains to be in limbo. The publication reports that there has yet to be an official announcement, though it has been confirmed. And given the fact that the movie just arrived last month, it is almost impossible for an update about the third season to surface right now.
It holds true that Code Geass has been quiet for years now. However, 2019 proved to be an exception when the aforementioned film arrived, marking a turning point for the entire franchise.
In a report from ComicBook, the movie was first announced back in November 2016 before hitting the Japanese big screens in February. A couple of weeks later, an English review of the film has gone live, giving the sequel a passing grade.
According to the publication, the coolest thing about Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection is its ability to maintain the hype around the TV series. It does not necessarily ruin the foundation established by the anime years ago, something that many spin-off anime films did for the last five years. Suffice to say, it might be the perfect go-to option for now while Code Geass Season 3 remains in limbo.
While the film did pretty well, it is Code Geass Season 3 the fans are so eager to hear about. But, as mentioned, it would take more time for anything about the new season to headline.
