Netflix will create a live-action version of The Witcher based on Andrzej Sapkowski's original novel series. The show will be led by Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, and as early as now, it is surrounded by a lot of controversies. Here is everything we know so far about the show.

"Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts," The Witcher official synopsis read. "But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together."

In August 2018, Cavill expressed his interest to play the role of Geralt of Rivia on The Witcher. He told IGN he would be more than willing to take the "amazing role." But at the time of the interview, he already knew Lauren S. Hissrich, the show's writer and showrunner, wanted him to be the lead character.

However, Cavill's casting has been met with a big controversy, What's on Netflix reported. Fans of the video game franchise with the same name think the Superman star is too clean compared to Geralt of Rivia that has a scruffy, dirty look. The first look to his character lacks more scars and a beard to make him look like The Witcher protagonist.

Aside from Cavill, Freya Allan will also join The Witcher as Ciri, Princess of Cintra, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Jodhi May as Queen Calanthe, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson as Eist, and Adam Levy as Mousesack. Also, fans will see MyAnna Buring on the series as Tissaia, Mimi Ndiweni as Fringilla, Therica Wilson-Read as Sabrina, and Millie Brady as Princess Renfri.

A lot of fans are hoping to see Charles Dance on The Witcher to reprise his role as Emhyr var Emreis the Emporer of Nilfgaard from The Witcher 3. Netflix has yet to announce the star to play the role, thus they are looking forward it will be Dance.

Meanwhile, new set photos, via Heroic Hollywood, from The Witcher set seem to give the first look to Geralt of Rivia's horse, Roach. The production is currently underway, and the latest snaps reveal the crew, actors in costume, and a vehicle carrying a horse. So, there are assumptions it can be the mare Cavill will use.

The Witcher can be Netflix's most expensive series so far. Hence, the streaming service is hoping subscribers, and video gamers alike will love its story. The show will be adapting the franchise's novels, which currently has eight installments, not the video games.

Netflix has yet to confirm The Witcher's release date, but it is expected to be out this year. As the production is still ongoing and the post-production may take a little while, fans may see it hit the small screens in November or December.
