Many were shocked when they found out that the upcoming Poldark season 5 will be the last for the hit BBC historical period drama. Aidan Turner recently said the fifth installment might not be the end after all but his time on the show has come to an end. The writer of the series also talked about the future of the main characters.
Turner, who portrays the character of Ross Poldark in the series, previously revealed to Collider what he feels about his final season on the show. He said things hadn't sunk it yet now that it's nearing its ending and he's still adjusting since he's doing the historical drama for four years.
But, he admitted about the possibility of the sixth season as some books written by Winston Graham were written later Ross' life, so this might not be the end after all. However, he might not be part of the future seasons considering the gap years of the series.
Writer Debbie Horsfield also talked about the future of Ross and Demelza (played by Eleanor Tomlinson). She revealed that people will be happy on Poldark season 5 as the characters will be fully reconciled and their relationship will be very strong. They'll be going into the future together and become a stronger as a couple.
Horsfield noted the show could evolve in the upcoming years, especially since Poldark series is based on the novels by Graham which means there are about 10 years between the events of the seventh and eighth books. She said the author made several references to developments happened in the gap years.
However, producer Karen Thrussell recently told Radio Times about the possibility of using new cast members if ever they'll be doing more seasons. She said there are still five more books they could possibly do in the future, but if Poldark season 6 will be confirmed, Ross will be on his 40s, so a new cast is needed to portray the role. But still, there are no confirmations about this and Poldark season 5 is considered to be the last for the series.
As for the release date of the upcoming season, BBC hasn't confirmed when will Poldark season 5 will air but it might premiere in the latter half of 2019. The filming reportedly began in September 2019, so fans can expect the drama to return in July 2019. It will also be available on PBS in the United States by the end of this year. Aside from the UK and the US, Poldark is also being broadcasted on Finland, Norway, and New Zealand.
