Thousands of fans are now excited for the release of Breakthrough. As the release date approaches, a report suggests that the upcoming Christian fantasy drama film might rake in $20 million in opening weekend earnings in North America.

According to Box Office Pro, Breakthrough could very well earn anywhere between $12 to $20 million on its opening weekend. The news outlet also noted multiple reasons that could contribute to the film's estimated earnings.

These include the lead star Chrissy Metz' (This Is Us) wide fan base, and producer DeVon Franklin's plenty of experience delivering hit films for Christian audiences throughout his involvement with 2014's Heaven Is for Real and 2016's Miracles from Heaven. Opening ahead of Easter weekend is another factor as well.

The predictions did not come as a surprise to many considering Breakthrough's official trailer received more than 30 million views within two days after it was released. After watching the trailer, the public could not help but get teary-eyed while remarking that "if you have faith in Him, anything impossible is possible."

Based on real-life events, Breakthrough tells the story of a teenager, John Smith (Marcel Ruiz), who slips through an icy Missouri lake while playing with his friends. After being declared dead for almost an hour, he miraculously comes back to life when his mother, Joyce Smith (Chrissy Metz), begins to pray.

The forthcoming film also stars Josh Lucas as Brian Smith, the father of John; Topher Grace as Pastor Jason Noble, a pastor in the Smith family's town; Mike Colter as Tommy Shine, a first responder who rescued John from the icy lake; Sam Trammel as Dr. Kent Sutterer, and Dennis Haysbert as Dr. Garrett.

Breakthrough is directed by Roxann Dawson based on a script written by Grant Nieporte. NBA superstar Stephen Curry serves as executive producer, while Marcelo Zarvos is in charge of the music. The film will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

"John Smith's story is nothing short of incredible," Stephen Curry, 31, said in a press statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a story about the power of prayer and perseverance and one I immediately connected to. After reading the script, I knew I wanted to be a part of bringing it to life on screen," he added.

Breakthrough is set to open in theaters across North America on April 17. While waiting, check out the film's official trailer below:
