The first full-length trailer for Netflix's Black Summer has been released, and from the looks of it, it is going to be a tough one for Rose (Jaime King) after being separated from her daughter during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.

The almost two-minute trailer begins with the collapse of civilization that immediately follows a deadly zombie outbreak. After being separated from her daughter, Rose joins a small group of American refugees who are also out to locate their loved ones.

However, things will not be easy for Rose. For her and the other refugees to survive the new hostile world, they must make brutal choices to contend with the human-flesh-eating zombies and each other. The choices they make are the only thing that makes them human.

Black Summer also stars Justin Chu Cary as Spears, Mustafa Alabssi as Ryan, Sal Velez, Jr. as William Velez, Kelsey Flower as Lance, and Erika Hau as Carmen. Actors Gwynyth Walsh (known for her role in Star Trek: Voyager), Kash Hill (Young Drunk Punk and Dark Hearts), Christine Lee (What Next and Piano and Colossal), Aidan Fink (Supergirl and The Shocking Truth) and Edsson Morales (Odd Squad and Gente-fied: The Digital Series) are also appearing in undisclosed roles.

Produced by The Asylum, the upcoming zombie apocalypse drama series is said to be a companion prequel show to Syfy's Z Nation. It was created by Z Nation co-creator and executive producer Karl Schaefer alongside the flagship series' co-executive producer John Hyams. Schaefer and Hyams also serve as showrunners.

"Really, the only similarity between Z Nation and Black Summer is that the Black Summer is the first summer that Z Nation took place in," producer Jodi Binstock said in a previous interview with Syfy when asked how is Black Summer going to expand on what fans have already seen on Z Nation. "Z Nation, when it begins, is in year four of the zombie apocalypse. Black Summer is three months in; this is the first outbreak, this is when all the sh*t's hitting the fan. It's not tongue-in-cheek at all. It is as realistic as any television I've ever seen," she added.

The pilot season of Black Summer, which will consist of 8 episodes, is set to be released on Netflix on April 11. Be sure to stay tuned here in Business Times for the latest Black Summer spoilers, predictions, and updates.
