Visa, an American-based finance services corporation, is reportedly testing out the waters and dipping their toes into the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain by way of hiring professionals in the field discreetly.
Their latest search? A technical product manager who has "a passionate outlook when it comes to payments and cryptocurrencies," according to their job posting/advertisement via recruiting platform SmartRecruiters.
As a matter of fact, the company even detailed the new role at the firm available for anyone with the skills, writing down, "As a product manager on the Visa crypto team, this person will have responsibility for executing Visa's product strategy within the cryptocurrency system."
Furthermore, the job listing by Visa also said that the "highly motivated individual" will be largely responsible for managing a product roadmap for the company, as well as collaborating with key stakeholders across the "strategy, risk, research, and engineering organizations." In addition, the individual will also "work in close collaboration with the Visa research team to develop new products to deliver value to both fintechs and the company itself." The person should also possess great problem-solving skills as well as creativity to continuously find new opportunities and anticipate how crypto and blockchain can help with the company, and how it can impact the currently existing payment system.
The successful candidate for the role at Visa will also be responsible for managing the product strategy and roadmap for crypto-related opportunities.
The job posting also suggests that Visa is working on permissionless blockhchain, as opposed to other big companies, which have largely placed their focus on permission ones. The advertisement notes, "Are you deeply familiar with permissionless blockchain technology and have a close network of experts in the fast-moving cryptocurrency and fintech ecosystem? Are you excited about the challenge of developing new products for Visa to deliver value to fintechs looking to support cryptocurrencies?"
Of course, this isn't the first time that the firm has taken more than a passing interest in bitcoin and the crypto space in general, like last year, Visa has acquired Earthport, a British cross-border payment provider. The payments provider reportedly has a lot of deep connections with Ripple, around $250 million.
In addition, the company has also been very transparent with several of its blockchain-related projects and ventures, such as the announcement of a partnership with IBM last year for the testing of Ethereum and its technology on the international payments industry.
