After Syfy dropped The Expanse in their line-up, Amazon and Alcon Entertainment made an agreement for the continuation of the inter-spacial thriller TV series production. And because of this, fans can now expect for a new season of the show.
Before the renewal, there has been a huge uproar from the fans when the headlines broke the news that The Expanse will no longer be renewed. This uproar caused many people to create campaigns on several platforms like Reddit. And "it worked," according to Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, the Alcon Entertainment Co-Founders and Co-CEOs.
While the renewal of the fourth season is already marked and inked, there are no further updates yet in terms of its release date. But it has been revealed that the production wrapped everything up last February. And if Amazon follows the same pattern of the series' premiere dates, then the fourth installment of The Expanse might have its premiere on June 2019.
In terms of the trailers and teasers, there are no official postings yet made by the production. But since it has already ended, then it's possible that these materials will be released anytime soon.
The imminent season will have a total number of 10 episodes. Although this is quite low in number, fans and viewers believe that there will be more seasons that will follow after this one.
As for the plot, it is very likely that the new season will follow the model of the previous installments. Moreover, it will pick-up where the third season ended. And based on how it ended, the gates are now open. So, this could mean that the fourth installment might explore new worlds.
It is also worth noting that this renewed season will follow the events that are written on Cibola Burn which is the fourth book in the novels authored by James S.A. Corey as revealed by the showrunner to Entertainment Weekly. Shankar also mentioned that the plot would not leave Earth, Mars, and the Belt in the upcoming season. So even if the characters are bound to explore other worlds, the established locations will stay put.
Aside from the new worlds, The Expanse Season 4 will also welcome new characters. And the most notable ones who made it to the list include Rosa Gilmore, Jess Salgueiro, and Keon Alexender as per Deadline. The Sleepy Hollow star, Lyndi Greenwood, also revealed recently in her Instagram account that she will be joining the cast of the series as Dr. Elvi Okoye.
