Daredevil is one of the Marvel shows in the Defenders family that are streaming on Netflix. And similar to what happened to Luke Cage and Iron Fist, it will no longer proceed with its fourth installment as these shows are already cancelled by the streaming platform.
Although Jessica Jones and The Punisher will still remain for another season, this recent news about the Defenders franchise is quite saddening as Marvel fans are really looking forward to more of these shows.
Ratings and the audience are quite significant but these factors do not have an integral role as to why the show is cancelled. As it happens, the main reason why Daredevil is no longer producing a new season is due to the recent movements made by Disney in the industry.
Apparently, Disney is having its own streaming service soon. The Disney+ will pretty much cover almost all Marvel shows in their platform as revealed by Variety. Hence, pulling rights of films and other television projects from Netflix is just fitting since they will be rivals once the platform premieres.
With these business movements at hand, fans are still hopeful that Daredevil will return even if it's not on Netflix. In fact, the excitement and hope to do another season for the show are still there, Erik Oleson, the showrunner of Season 3 told Inverse. He also mentioned that there is no official pick-up yet with regard to the fourth installment of the show, but if ever it happens, he also hopes that he will still be part of it.
On another note, other fans are also asking if characters from the show will appear in other Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Unfortunately, the contract between Netflix and Marvel hinders any characters from the Defenders family to appear in any films outside Netflix.
Moreover, this will last up to two years starting from their most recent appearance on the streaming platform. So, it is unlikely for the fans and audience to see Daredevil in any other films, productions, and projects.
And the most plausible thing to happen right now, if fans are really eager to witness Daredevil's movements, is to re-watch the show's three installments on Netflix as it is still available for streaming on the platform. Also, comic books are great options too. But other than these, fans will not be able to see the show and much more of its new installment on Netflix. And the same thing pretty much applies to the other shows from the Defenders family.
