After Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez announced their engagement, A-Rod's ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis gave them her blessing. For the first time, the former wife spoke up about the news amidst the controversies surrounding them.
"I'm happy for them," Cynthia Scurtis told Radar Online. "Other than that, I have no comment."
From the looks of it, Cynthia Scurtis doesn't want to talk much about Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez. According to Hollywood Life, the former husband and wife have been through a lot of issues for the past few years.
Before Alex Rodriguez got engaged to Jennifer Lopez, he was married to Cynthia Scurtis for six years, from 2002 to 2008. She filed for divorce against the former baseball player for alleged infidelity and marital misconduct. They have two daughters, 13-years-old Natasha, and 10-years-old Ella.
Alex Rodriguez and Cynthia Scurtis still have disagreements when it comes to their personal lives and kids support. These things are all laid out in court documents filed by Cynthia's brother, Constantine, in a 2014 civil lawsuit.
In the document obtained by NY Daily News in July 2018, it noted Cynthia Scurtis is not fond of Jennifer Lopez. She even allegedly made "disparaging remarks" about the hitmaker. She also accused Alex Rodriguez of threatening her to stop giving child support for their daughters.
Alex Rodriguez's lawyer, Alan Kluger, unearthed the claims from the documents that are part of Constantine's civil lawsuit. Here, Constantine accused Alex of "fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, and civil conspiracy" about the real estate company, Newport Property Ventures, they built together in 2003.
Constantine claimed he was forced out of their company in 2008, the same year Alex Rodriguez and Cynthia Scurtis got divorced. He also accused him of "mortgage and insurance fraud after Hurricane Ike" in the same year.
The case between Alex Rodriguez and Constantine is still ongoing. Although Cynthia Scurtis says good words about her ex-husband and his fiancée Jennifer Lopez, the case seems to suggest that they are not on good terms.
However, Alex Rodriguez and Cynthia Scurtis remain civil despite the issues they have for the sake of their two kids. In an interview with Nightline, she said they always put their two daughters first, so they will grow with emotional wellness and won't feel the stress of having a divorced family. It looks like everything will be well when Jennifer Lopez walks down the aisle despite all the issues.
