Amazon revealed that it will be constructing a new office in Austin, Texas but it is understood that this is not the headquarters that was supposed to be built in New York. Jeff Bezos' tech company promised to create job opportunities for those who are looking to build a career in the engineering, cloud computing, and research science fields.
On March 28, via press release, Amazon announced its plan of expanding its Austin Tech Hub that will eventually generate at least 800 job vacancies.
"In the last four years, we have created more than a 1,000 jobs in Austin," Terry Leeper, General Manager of Amazon's Austin Tech Hub, said. "With a strong pool of technical talent in Austin and a dynamic quality of life, we are excited to continue to expand and create more opportunity in this vibrant city."
Texas' Governor Greg Abbott said that his government will support Amazon in this venture as it will also benefit them for the jobs that it will offer to many people. Plus, the state's economy is also expected to become greater as well.
"The state of Texas has cultivated a strong and vibrant business environment, leading to more jobs and greater innovation. With today's announcement and continued investment in the technology sector, Texas will continue to chart a path toward greater economic prosperity."
Chairman of Austin's Chamber of Commerce, Gary Farmer, added that they are proud to have Amazon as a partner in their efforts to attain the goal of regional prosperity. It was further stated that the company already has a total of 7,000 employees including those who work at Whole Foods which the tech giant bought in 2016.
According to CNBC, Amazon will build new offices in a four-story structure that will be constructed in a 145,000-square-foot space in a North Austin development center called The Domain. As mentioned before, the staff that will be assigned here will all focus on tech and research works.
Meanwhile, Austin, Texas is being seen as an emerging premiere location for technology offices and the local government believes it will be able to become a tech hub in the future as more companies may invest in the state.
Just in December last year, Apple pledged to invest $1 billion for a new campus in Austin that, in estimation, will require some 5,000 employees. Other major companies that have offices in Austin include Google, Samsung, Facebook, Dell and more.
