Selling Sunset is Netflix's newest unscripted docudrama series, which arrived on the platform in the U.S. last March 21 with eight episodes. Subscribers seem to be hooked with this new show that many people are wondering about its second season release.
As of press time, however, Selling Sunset season 2 still doesn't have a confirmed renewal from Netflix. Creator and producer Adam DiVello pitched the idea to Netflix and, fortunately, the streaming platform wanted in.
Since Selling Sunset is still two weeks old and DiVello told Variety he's still not sure if the show would get picked up for another season. It will all depend on how Netflix subscribers have embraced the series, which is currently too early to tell. It might take Netflix a few more weeks to determine if Selling Sunset deserves a season 2.
"I'm still new at the Netflix regime so we'll see how it goes," DiVello said. "I think the most important thing today is with any show, is social media. Their Instagram and Twitter and Facebook keep the momentum alive."
Selling Sunset is inspired by other hit reality TV series from the early 2000s like The Hills and Laguna Beach, which DiVello also help also create for MTV. But this Netflix show centers on real estate brokers from the Oppenheim Group.
This company mainly services rich clients in the Los Angeles area, particularly the Sunset Strip, and the premise of season 1 is how a new broker will fit into the multi-million dollar earning group. The new agent is licensed realtor Chrishell Hartley, the wife of This Is Us star, Justin Hartley.
Chrishell also has another job as an actress on Days of Our Lives and she also has a new Lifetime series in the works. Her life on Selling Sunset shows how she balances her two jobs, while also taking care of a growing family with her superstar husband.
Selling Sunset also features the professional and personal life of real estate elite brokers Christine Quinn, Maya Vender, Davina Potratz, Mary Fitzgerald and Heather Young. They are guided by their boss, the Oppenheimer twins, Brett and Jason.
Meanwhile, the Oppenheim twins, however, hinted via Express that they are ready for the Selling Sunset season 2. Admittedly, the decision is all up to Netflix but if there were a follow-up season, the show could expand its real estate, so to speak, in other areas like Beverly Hills, Santa Monica or New York.
