The condition of Jessie Nevin (played by actress Julianna Guill) in The Resident season 2 episode 20 is worsening. Conrad Hawkins (played by Matt Czuchry) has to break this bad news to Jessie's sister, Nicollete Nevin (played by Emily VanCamp), which will be hard to do considering their personal connections.
According to the episode synopsis for The Resident season 2 episode 20, Conrad will have to face a tough call about Jessie. Telling Nic her sister's health may have no more hope will indeed be difficult, especially when Conrad's feelings for Nic are still so deep.
The Resident season 2 has been highlighting the kind of the sibling relationship that sisters Jessie and Nic have. They might be estranged for quite some time, due to Jessie's substance abuse problems, but she consciously made her sister her emergency contact.
Nic suspected that the reason why Jessie's kidney is failing is not because of her overdose from abusing oxy medication. Rather, the nurse believes that something went wrong with the drug trial Jessie joined and Nic might have to get into the bottom of this.
Meanwhile, whatever Nic is going through with her sister will affect her relationship with Conrad. The Resident executive producer Todd Harthan revealed to the Hollywood Life about these characters' trajectory this season.
"We're injecting some personal and family issues into both of their lives that can cause complications in their personal relationships," Harthan said. "A lot is going to get thrown at them, and it just comes down to whether or not their relationship is truly in a healthy enough place to survive all of these obstacles that these two have to face."
As it is, however, Nic's love story with Conrad is already complicated with the arrival of Alec Shaw (played by Miles Gaston Villanueva). Nic has such wonderful chemistry with Alex in The Resident season 2 that it may be understandable why viewers are torn about this growing romance.
Meanwhile, there are only two more episodes left to air for The Resident season 2. The show, however, will still return to television next season since FOX has renewed The Resident for season 3.
Though there are still no details about what's going to happen in the next installments, viewers may expect deeper medical mysteries and malpractices to be covered in the upcoming season. The Resident, after all, has been injecting real-life stories and cases in their show despite, which is what sets them apart from other medical dramas on TV right now.
