Is ATL 2 ever going to release in theaters? It's been more than 10 years since the first movie hit the screens and it's nearly three years since director Chris Robinson hinted that they are developing the sequel.

In 2015, Robinson released a teaser poster on his social media to confirm that they are working on ATL 2. Rapper Tip "T.I." Harris also hinted on his Instagram that there will be a sequel to the 2006 film.

According to Project Casting, T.I. even came up with the hashtag "#ATL2 Get Read" on social media to drum up some buzz for the film. The report also cited that Lauren London, also known as New New, agreed to return to ATL 2.

In 2016, a video clip of London and T.I. was posted on YouTube. It suggested that the stars are working on a set of what looks like the planned ATL 2 movie.

Two years later, London said in an interview that the powers that be are still working on the sequel. She's not particularly involved in the development of the project, however, so she has no firm knowledge of where they are in coming up with ATL 2.

"I know that they are working on it, and I know that this is something that they are trying to push forward," London said.  "I don't know too much - that would be a great T.I. question, but what I do know is as much as the fans want it, we want it too."

According to Den of Geek, despite the stars saying there will be an ATL 2 movie, Warner Bros has not, in fact, given the project a green light. For now, everything remains in discussion and the talks seemed to be sustaining the interest for the sequel.

Robinson, however, might have moved on from working on ATL 2 since Blackfilm confirmed he is currently aboard a new project for Hulu. The director and producer is making the 10-episode series about the 1990s rap group, Wu-Tang clang.

At the time of its release, ATL earned a modest box office result. Despite this, however, critics generally received the movie about the rap music industry in Atlanta positively that it even managed to snag the Best Hip Hop Movie Award at the 2006 BET Awards.

ATL was T.I.'s big screen debut, but he has worked with Robinson on his music videos. Aside from T.I. and London, the film also starred Evan Ross, Jackie Long, Jason Weaver, Big Boi Patton, Keith David, and Mykelti Williamson. Will Smith is one of the producers of the film along with Dallas Austin, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, James Lassiter and Jody Gerson.
