Sylvester Stallone rebuilds the hype for The Expendables 4 after he shared a throwback photo with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis on Instagram. Although the 72-year-old star didn't give any details about the film's fourth installment, fans believed it was a subtle hint that the movie would be in the works soon.

"THE THREE WISE GUYS ... the last of the breed!" Sylvester Stallone captioned the snap. The photo was said to be from The Expendables 2. Arnold Schwarzenegger originally shared the picture in 2011 at the start of the second movie's production in Bulgaria.

A lot of fans believed The Expendables 4 would be out in 2016 with the film's release timeline, but the year came and went, and nothing was revealed. According to Cinemablend, things had been complicated for the movie.

The Expendables 4 was announced in 2016. It was meant to be the franchise's last installment with the expected return of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Stratham, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, Sly walked away from the film in March 2017 for not having a common ground with Nu Image/Millennium chief Avi Lerner on a lot of fronts.

Later, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed he wouldn't do The Expendables 4 without Sylvester Stallone. He also didn't want how his storyline line rolled out in the previous movie. So although he loved the first two installments and the franchise as a whole, he wouldn't return without a proper plotline.

In January 2018, Sylvester Stallone returned, and the making of The Expendables 4 became official in May of the same year. Since then, there was no official word yet about the film, except when Terry Crews announced his exit because of certain producer's involvement in the movie.

Although Sylvester Stallone has yet to give official details about The Expendables 4, We Got This Covered reported the film is expected to start its production in Bulgaria this month. It even looks like it is now gearing up to start its filming in the next few weeks.

So whether Sylvester Stallone intended to share a throwback photo or hype The Expendables 4, he succeeded in doing the latter. Fans now want to know the film's complete roster as who will and not return to the movie.

Surely, Sylvester Stallone and the film's other cast members will give more details about The Expendables 4 production should the filming starts anytime on their respective social media accounts. Also, fans have to wait for Nu Image or Millennium's official announcement.
