You is a romantic-thriller series starring Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg which becomes popular after it premiered on Netflix in December last year. Now that You season 2 was already confirmed, what fans can expect on the second installment?
You is based on Caroline Kepnes' book of the same name and it was initially aired on Lifetime in September 2018, and Netflix picked it up and renewed it for a second season. Currently, the release date of You season 2 was not yet announced, but the filming began in February so we the series might be returning soon - a Fall 2019 release date is very likely.
While it's still a speculation, a few details about the next season were already unveiled. You season 2 is based on Kepnes' second novel Hidden Bodies, though it will not entirely follow the plot. In the second installment, Joe will be moving from New York City to Los Angeles, where he will start a new life. His decision moving out of NYC is because of his failed relationship with Beck (Elizabeth Lail) - whom he kept in the basement and eventually murdered her.
Now that he is starting a new life in Los Angeles, he'll definitely find a new love as well. It was revealed that The Haunting of Hill House star Victoria Pedretti will be joining Badgley in You season 2. The actress will portray the role of Love Quinn, an aspiring chef who works as a produce manager in a grocery store. Reports say the character is "uninterested in social media," which is totally opposite of Beck. According to Netflix, the character is also in a "deep grief" and things will change when she meets Joe.
Meanwhile, Joe's ex-girlfriend Candace (Ambyr Childers) might be returning in the second season as well. It was initially believed the character was dead, but and the end of season 1, it was revealed that she's alive. This makes Joe shocked and confused, especially after telling him they have "unfinished business." What could it be?
Showrunner Sera Gamble revealed in an interview with Vulture that Childers' character is indeed coming back in You season 2, though she didn't elaborate what would be her role. However, she hinted there will be bigger twists and turns involving her character in the next installment. As for new cast members, Heathers' stars Melanie Field and James Scully, Russian Doll's Charlie Barnett, Gotham's Robin Lord Taylor, and Jane The Virgin's Jenna Ortega will reportedly join You season 2.
