Country singer Miranda Lambert took what appeared to some fans as a cheap shot at Blake Shelton during her performance Sunday night at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas as her ex-husband, and Gwen Stefani sat in the front row of the MGM Grand.
Dressed in a body-hugging black jumpsuit, the 35-year-old singer seemed to be throwing shade at her former lover as she performed her medley of country hits, including "Gunpowder And Lead," "White Liar," "Kerosene," and "Little Red Wagon."
Upon getting to the last part, she modified some of the lyrics of her song "Little Wed Wagon" from "I live in Oklahoma" to "I got the hell out of Oklahoma," something she has been known to do in the past during her performances.
However, it was the first time Lambert performed it in that way while the "Austin" songwriter Shelton was present, and with his girlfriend Stefani looking on as well. There was some present at the event who cheered on the Pistol Annies member.
One approving fan tweeted on social media about being able to understand where Lambert was coming from with her barely veiled antipathy toward her ex.
But other fans who were watching the show felt this seemed the epitome of shading and turned to social media to express their criticisms. The Grammy winner's behavior toward her former spouse from Oklahoma was taken to mean that perhaps she was not entirely over her him as yet.
One Twitter user made mention of Lambert's success in the past with a song that Shelton had written, saying that the former should not "forget" that he used to be her "sun and moon." Another referred to the incident as a "classless move" which did not have a satisfying excuse, and the user went on to use hashtags "#bitterness" and "#getoverit."
Lambert and Shelton began dating in 2006 and finally became engaged in 2010. They got married in May 2011 but ended up having a bitter divorce after four years of marriage in July 2015.
Presently, Lambert made a surprising announcement February 14 that she had gotten married in a secret ceremony to a 27-year-old officer from the New York Police force, Brenden McLoughlin. She also appeared to have told off reporters who wanted to know more about her new husband and said for them to "mind" their "fu---ng business."
On another note, Blake and "Voice" host Stefani have themselves been dodging talks about their wedding lately. The couple was also said to have been surprised at Lambert's behavior, according to a source.
Stefani was "embarrassed," the source shared, for Lambert who, despite her recent wedding, does not seem to have gotten over Shelton. All in all, the couple was said to have laughed it off.
