American Horror Story season 9 creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed the title of the upcoming installment. After Apocalypse(season 8), the new season, which will likely begin its run this fall, seems to inspired by 1980s slasher flicks and it is aptly officially called American Horror Story: 1984.
Murphy posted the title's confirmation via a video teaser on his Instagram. The clip opened with a teenage girl running in the dark in woods, while a man in coat and boots chased after her.
This man was carrying a large knife, which explained why the girl was trying to evade him. She got inside a barn and closed the wooden door behind her. However, the man stabbed the knife through the door and ended up scaring the girl.
The teaser to American Horror Story: 1984 may remind viewers of a couple of popular 1980s slasher films like Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. Though Murphy didn't say what the theme was, it would be easy to guess where this installment would go based on the teaser.
But there are still no other details to American Horror Story: 1984 apart from this video. Expectedly, the show should be airing sometime in the fall as all of the seasons were released either late September or October, as per Den of Geek.
As far as the casting is concerned, only Emma Roberts and Gus Kenworthy have been confirmed to return on American Horror Story season 9. There have been no other announcements on who else is joining or returning to the show as of press time.
Meanwhile, fan favorite Evan Peters announced that he would not be part of American Horror Story season 9. The actor revealed his decision in an interview with Extra, citing that he needed a break from playing the evil roles in this anthology series.
"I'm going to take a break, regroup, decompress, get back in touch with what I feel like I want to do. Not that I didn't want to do any of those roles - they're exactly what I wanted to do," Peter said in another interview with People.
The actor's announcement came following the news that he and Roberts have called off their engagement after being together and living in the same house on and off since 2012. The actress has been rumored to be currently dating Garrett Hedlund although sources told E! News that this new relationship is not yet serious.
