Many fans are waiting for BBC to confirm the renewal of the popular British crime drama television series based on the Sherlock Holmes detective novels of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The network has not yet released any hints on when Sherlock Season 5 would come into a reality. While a few followers of the show have started losing hope already, the show's cast is still expecting for it to be realized soon.

EconoTimes revealed actress Louise Brealey shared some of the details she knows about the yet-to-be-confirmed Sherlock Season 5. The English star, who plays the role of Molly Hooper, divulged that there were talks about them doing a special Sherlock episode. However, Louise stated she has not heard about it since.

"To utilise two clichés, I think it's on the very back burner and not necessarily on the cards," the actress told the entertainment news outlet. Despite this, Louise and co-star Una Stubbs, who plays the role of Sherlock's landlady Mrs. Hudson, are very much open to reprising their roles in Sherlock Season 5 if it would push through.

"But, unfortunately, we're not in charge of the decision making in the room," Louise went on. Besides the 40-year-old actress, series lead star Benedict Cumberbatch has also supported the idea of having Sherlock Season 5 in the near future. The 42-year-old English actor even revealed that he kept on revisiting the show even after the end of its fourth season.

Martin Freeman, Eleanor Matsuura, and Siane Brooke are, also, willing to reprise their roles if BBC would confirm the renewal of Sherlock Season 5. Eleanor, previously, revealed that she is a big fan of the show, including its cast and storyline. If the fifth installment would come into reality, fans can expect Eleanor, who plays the role of Detective Stella Hopkins, to work together with Sherlock in solving cases.

Meanwhile, series co-writer Steven Moffat said, in 2016, that it is not possible for the show to just disappear out of the blue. "We're all constantly thrilled and amazed by people's enthusiasm for Sherlock," Moffat stated about Sherlock Season 5 at the time. "We hope to carry on as long as we can," he added.

Though BBC has not yet released any official details about the yet-to-be-confirmed fifth season, rumors are rife that it could premiere some time in 2019 or 2020. While this is not impossible to happen, it should be noted that all of these claims remain unconfirmed up to this writing. Hence, everything should be taken lightly until it is proven true and correct. Stay tuned to Business Times for more Sherlock Season 5 spoilers, predictions, news, and updates.
