Earlier this year, the Kpop world went in total shock when the controversy relating to Burning Sun and Seungri from Big Bang hit the headlines all over the globe. While this "shock" is still apparent months after, newer and bigger allegations and scandals were revealed to the public recently. And the most recent update about this is the arrest made towards Hwang Hana, a frequent to Burning Sun.
As it happens, Hwang Hana, the only granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy and more famously known as the ex-fiance of Yoochun, was arrested on April 9 for the drug charges pressed upon her. These drug charges include the alleged usage and distribution of illegal drugs, namely, Philopon, a form of methamphetamine.
Her recent arrest was not entirely shocking in the Korean news. This is because Hwang Hana has been already linked to various drug cases in the previous years. The public is more surprised when this arrest is only made recently considering that the cases way back in 2011 and 2015 are strong enough to arrest her.
One possible aspect that is being looked at is the fact that Hwang Hana and her family has friends in high places, as per Asian Junkie. And being a member of a chaebol clan is a huge thing. But even so, the seriousness and the size of the Burning Sun Scandal paved the ways for the arrest to happen.
And aside from this fact, Hwang Hana failed to respond to the subpoena issued by the police on April 3. This subpoena is actually for the reinvestigation and opening of her 2015 drug case. As a result, the arrest was made on the fifth that led to her seven-and-a-half-hour interrogation.
According to Koogle TV, Hwang Hana "partially confessed" that she indeed used illegal drugs. But aside from these details, no further information has been shared publicly.
Additionally, a new name surfaced the media claiming that she had been taking and using drugs, including marijuana, meth, and ecstasy, and mentioned Hwang Hana's name. This new persona is named as Cho who happens to be a Burning Sun employee. Upon speaking publicly, Cho was one of the first that got arrested.
Alongside Cho and Hwang Hana, the journalist who broke down the Burning Sun Scandal revealed that there is more to come when it comes to publishing names of the associated and involved persons. And about Asian Junkie's reports, two new identities were booked as they are learned to have drug ties. And these two are the grandsons of SK Group and Hyundai Group.
Now, it seems that the Burning Sun Scandal is growing bigger and a lot messier than when it first broke the media. Nevertheless, a lot of people believed that more is to come, especially when the chaebol clans start to protect their names and legacies.
