Netflix confirmed last year that 13 Reasons Why season 3 is on the way, though it didn't reveal further details about it. The controversial series from Brian Yorkey, which is based on the novel of the same name written by Jay Asher, ended its second season with a cliffhanger. Fans expect the events that happened from there will continue in the third season.

13 Reasons Why caught the attention of many following its release in March 2017. The series follows the story of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), a troubled teenager who faced a series of mishaps which led her to take her own life. The show becomes controversial as it tackles relevant issues among young adults such as substance abuse, bullying, rape, as well as suicide.

This prompted outrage from some parents and groups across social media, asking to cancel the series. Despite that, 13 Reasons Why is a huge success for Netflix and the streaming giant renewed the show for a second season, which deals with the events after Hannah's death and bullying of another character Tyler (Devin Druid). So now, is 13 Reasons Why season 3 coming soon on Netflix?

The company has yet to announce the release date, but it's very sure it would arrive this 2019. It can be recalled a teaser was released last year, confirming the third season along with the words, "coming soon." The first season arrived in March 2017, while the second one premiere in May 2018. Fans could expect the third installment around Summer 2019, so it's coming back on Netflix soon.

But while the release date was not yet revealed, there were details about the cast and plot of the third season. It was confirmed Dylan Minnette is back as Clay Jensen, along with other series regulars. Some cast members who will return this season include Christian Navarro (Tony), Alisha Boe (Jessica), Brandon Flynn (Justin), and Devin Druid (Tyler).

Justin Prentice (Bryce) is also back, and his mother - played by Brenda Strong - is reportedly promoted to series regular. Also, Timothy Granaderos (Montgomery) becomes a series regular as well. As for Langford, she might not be coming back in 13 Reasons Why season 3, but if she did, it would only be a minor role. The actress herself confirmed she already let go of her character, hinting she's not coming back in the series.

As for the plot, season 2 ended with a cliffhanger - particularly the horrific sexual attack on Tyler which led him to attempt a mass shooting in their school, but he managed to escape before even doing that. This would likely be the main focus of 13 Reasons Why season 3. Another one is that Bryce was only given three-month probation for the rape of Jessica, and he also got his girlfriend, Chloe, pregnant. Will he force her to have an abortion?

While the upcoming season will further tackle serious issues, some characters would finally get a happy ending. For instance, Jess is rebuilding her life, while Justin is also doing the same after Clay's parents decided to adopt him.

As for Clay, he needs to rebuild his life and relationships with others, as the death of Hannah took a toll on his mental health. At the end of season 2, he helped Tyler escaped with Tony, but he ended up holding the firearm. He has a lot of explaining to do in 13 Reasons Why season 3.
