Fans of The Grand Tour, rejoice! It has been confirmed that the popular motoring television series will return for Season 4, but with a twist.
The Grand Tour Season 4 will bid adieu to the show's old format, which includes the tent, studio audience, and talk/celebrity interview segments. Instead, presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May will go on a series of a road trip and epic adventure specials.
"After the Mongolia adventure, there will be one more conventional show, the finale for this series," The Grand Tour's executive producer Andy Wilman said in an interview with RadioTimes.com. "Then we're pulling down the curtain on the studio-based episodes so that we can just concentrate on big Specials. If Mongolia is anything to go by, we'll be okay."
The Grand Tour Season 4 would also have the same hefty budget as its three predecessors with Jeremy Clarkson saying that "Marvel will be jealous of our budgets." It is worth noting that Amazon Studios reportedly spent as much as $5 million per episode for the past three seasons.
Despite the hefty budget and more adventures, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are still sad about The Grand Tour Season 3 ending. The former said: "The show as you know it is ending, and that's very upsetting for us."
The 14th and final episode of The Grand Tour Season 3, titled "Funeral for a Ford," saw the trio paying tribute to the Mid Size Ford Saloon. Jeremy Clarkson and James May looked into the history of the Ford Cortina, through its many generations such as the Lotus Cortina, while Richard Hammond reviewed the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth at the Eboladrome.
Later, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May regroup as they wave goodbye to the Ford Mondeo with a car meet at Lincoln Cathedral. They, then, return to the tent and bid farewell to their studio based car shows. A montage was also played at the end of the episode showcasing memorable moments from the show.
In addition to The Grand Tour Season 4, the presenters are also busy working on their respective solo TV projects. Jeremy Clarkson is on board as a presenter for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, while James May is currently working on an untitled travelogue from Japan. Richard Hammond is also busy with several projects.
